Fees and Billing

Treatment Duration

The duration of therapy is variable and depends on you and what you'd like to work on. Your therapist will collaborate with you throughout your treatment to determine how many and what kind of sessions and/or services you may need to receive the greatest benefit based on your concerns.

Superbills and Out of Network Care

Metaphor Therapy offers a couple different ways to pay for therapy. Regardless of the method you choose, full payment for visits is required from the client at the time of service.

If you don't have out of network coverage or don't want your insurance involved in your mental health care, MacKenzie offers a discount to clients who are not using insurance. Her self pay rate is noted in her fee schedule above. Superbills are not available for self pay clients.

If you'd like to use your insurance, we are an out of network provider for all insurance plans and our usual and customary rates are included in the fee schedule above. In order to have your insurance cover psychotherapy, you need to have a qualifying mental health diagnosis. Not everyone already has a mental health diagnosis on file and not everyone who might qualify for one wants it added to their medical record, as they are considered preexisting conditions that could have an impact down the line. If you already have a mental health diagnosis on file, this is less of a concern. Metaphor Therapy's office handles billing as a courtesy for MacKenzie's clients, and the rest of our clinical team can provide superbills for you to submit to your insurance yourself.

Some insurance companies will let their members submit receipts from providers for services, and then reimburse the member for part of the cost of services. How much insurance pays is based on the member's insurance plan, and factors in items like deductibles, copays, and coinsurance. The special receipt is called a superbill, and our electronic health record SimplePractice can be set up to send them to you automatically. It includes our names and addresses, a diagnosis, a service code and description, and the amount you paid. All that said, most insurance companies do not cover psychotherapy services with pre-licensed clinicians (AMFTs, APCCs, ASWs, etc.), even with a superbill. As a result, we strongly recommend checking in with your insurance to learn more about your coverage.

Please note that regardless of whether insurance pays or not, the client is ultimately responsible for the entire cost of the visit.

Receipts for your own records, FSAs, and HSAs are available regardless of how you pay for therapy.
